The colour of beginnings
In isiXhosa, imbola is the sacred red ochre — burnt, pounded, and mixed into a paste worn on the skin. It is among the oldest forms of human adornment, with ochre traced back 75,000 years to Blombos Cave on South Africa’s southern coast. We carry that lineage into cloth: adornment as memory, as belonging, as pride.
